An open letter to all parents from the 3WYA board... Please, read and consider...

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We would like to welcome you and thank you for your interest on behalf of The We Will Win Youth Association (3WYA). Our intent here is to give you an up-close look at the heart of 3WYA so you can understand why we do what we do for and  with the youth of our community.

We Will Win Youth Association was the dream of our founder Colter Simmonds - to create a basketball program that would guide and direct young athletes in at-risk environments on the path of opportunities; opportunities that education and athletics can offer.

Colter is a native of North Preston, Nova Scotia, where he lived until the age of twelve before he moved to inner-city Toronto, Ontario, and spent the next 12 years of his life. Colter credits his strong values, love for young people and faith in a higher power to his humble beginnings in North Preston. “North Preston is where I learned to value family, friends and community,” says Colter, “In North Preston there was always someone looking out for me and keeping me on the right path.

We Will Win Youth Association began in Toronto. It was there that Colter used the values he learned in North Preston to create a safe haven for youth from different communities where they were guided away from violence and crime, and brought into a group of people who cared for each other. Bringing the youth together meant bringing the communities together as well. Basketball is what the youth had in common and the dream of playing at the next level is what kept them focused on the court and in the classroom.

Colter Simmonds has now moved back home to Nova Scotia to share his vision with the rest of our board members and the community, and to provide youth here that same opportunity of education and athletics.

Living in North Preston gave Colter the understanding of two very important principles for life: 1) it takes a village/community to raise a child, and 2) we must train-up a child in the way he/she should go and when she/he grows they will not depart far from it. These are two important principles that the current Board of Directors continues to espouse in our work. We all win when we develop the skills to enhance a youth’s prospect of post-secondary education, because we are also increasing their likelihood to become productive citizens in society.

Over the past ten years We Will Win has had the opportunity to work with youth from across Canada teaching life-skills through sport. We enjoy helping young people pursue their goals and dreams.

We hope that you too share a genuine interest in the youth of our community and are willing to help 3WYA reach our youth. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please contact us at your earliest convenience at (902) 476-0987 or via email (ForeverRising@WeWillWin.net).

Sincerely,

Colter Simmonds and the We Will Win Youth Association Board of Directors
